Robbers Hit Casino at Louisiana Truck Stop
Three words visitors to plush venues like the Wynn Las Vegas, Bellagio, Trump Plaza, or Venetian Macau never expect to hear linked are truck stop casino; yet that is the term for a roadside gambling joint taken down by bandits before sunrise this morning.
The Relay Station, a truck stop on Highway 1 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, also hosts a slot parlor known as Ace in the Hole Casino. Despite the reputation of truck stops as a refuge for burly men usually well-armed, a gang of robbers decided the cash piling up at the casino was too tempting to pass up.
Several armed men charged into the building around 3 a.m., and proceeded to tie up two employees and a security guard. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken, and one of the workers had to be hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police are reviewing security film to determine descriptions of the suspects and the type of vehicle used in the getaway, although an abandoned car was found a few miles away.
Perhaps the constant robberies occurring in Montana have enlivened thieves elsewhere to hit casinos as an easy source of unmarked cash. Casinos might wish to discuss security policies with banks, using silent alarms and dye packs in money packets as potential deterrents, before this crime wave spreads further.
If only the bandits had had the chili, they might have been caught at a local restroom.
